OFF THE COAST WITH FISHERMEN - MALAYSIA

L1000632_edited.jpg

ABOUT THE PHOTO WORKSHOP

Off the coast with fishermen in Kuantan, Malaysia, lies a unique opportunity to document one of the oldest trades: fishing. This workshop offers participants an immersive experience into the life of a reportage photographer, where only the bare necessities are provided and comfort is a luxury. Each participant will join a fisherman early in the morning, equipped with safety gear, to document their daily life at sea and the vibrant fish market where they sell their catch.

The workshop is designed to challenge photographers, pushing them beyond their usual comfort zones. Participants will learn to work within the limited space of a boat, adapting their techniques to capture the essence of the fishermen's lives. This environment encourages photographers to think creatively and develop a series of images that truly represent the hard work and tradition of the fishing community.

As the fishermen navigate the waters, participants will witness the intricate skills and perseverance required in this ancient trade. The experience not only provides invaluable insights into the fishermen's way of life but also enhances the participants' ability to tell compelling visual stories. This workshop is a rare chance to connect deeply with a vital part of Malaysian coastal culture and refine one's reportage photography skills.
